Recombinant Acellular Pertussis Vaccine

Bordetella pertussis is a pathogen that causes whooping cough, a severe and sometimes deadly disease.

Two kinds of pertussis vaccines are currently available:

The traditional whole-cell pertussis vaccines, part of the Expanded Program of Immunization
The Acellular Pertussis Vaccines, routinely used in Western Europe, North America, Japan and
Korea but not in the emerging countries because of its high cost

BioNet-Asia, Co. Ltd is collaborating with Mahidol University, one of the most prestigious universities in Thailand to construct a recombinant Bordetella Pertussis strain, using up-to-date recombinant DNA techniques.

The recombinant technology eliminates the need for chemical inactivation of the vaccine components and produced more native and active ingredients. The construction of the recombinant pertussis strain producing very high yields of inactivated pertussis toxins will enable the production of a third generation of pertussis vaccine to be affordable to developing countries.

Hib Vaccine

Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) is a pathogen that can cause meningitis and severe pneumonia. Hib vaccines are routinely used in the industrialized world for over 15 years. But despite recommendations from the World Health Organization, three fourth of children worldwide are not yet immunized against Hib disease. One of the reasons is still the financial impacts of Hib vaccine introduction.

BioNet-Asia, Co. Ltd has partnered in the development of a low cost vaccine using high yield fermentation and conjugation technologies.

Other projects

BioNet-Asia, Co. Ltd is constantly exploring new opportunities in the research and development of future vaccines through collaboration or Public-Private Partnership with companies, institutes and universities for example in the field of Japanese Encephalitis Vaccine or Dengue, Influenza and Pneumococcal Polysaccharide vaccines.
